Vijayawada: The ancient Chinese method of strategically inserting needles into specific pressure points of the body is centuries-old treatment method called Acupuncture, is getting famous these days in the capital city of Vijayawada. It has long been recognised as a legitimate form of alternative therapy which is in use and practised in holistic health centres, physiotherapy clinics, and wellness spas all over the world, and continues to receive ongoing support from the mainstream health community.
Many patients have sought alternative solutions to managing conditions like pain in an effort to avoid taking excessive medication. Oftentimes these medications are only effective for a short period, after which other medications will need to be added or dosages will need to be increased.
Relying on medication to help treat or manage pain can result in a number of side effects, including addiction. Finding a more natural alternative, such as acupuncture, can be a safer and more effective solution.
Speaking to The Hans India, acupuncturist M Satyanarayana who is also principal of Acupuncture Science College said that in the initial acupuncture session, one will be asked a number of questions that relate to one's pain and discomfort. This will help the acupuncturist determine the specific points on which to focus during the acupuncture treatment. These points will have a direct relationship to various body functions and current health issues.
Once the points have been clearly identified, a small thin needle will be tapped into these points on your body. Most often patients do not feel any pain throughout this process, although some might feel a slight tingle. The acupuncture treatment may last from 15 minutes to an hour and may require more than one session.
He said that as opposed to popular Western belief, acupuncture is not just a system for inserting very fine needles into particular body locations to help reduce pain. Acupuncture is a complete medical rule of conduct focused on correcting imbalance energy in the body. More than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture has been used to prevent and treat disease as well as to improve general health.
He stated that Acupuncture works by stimulating the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain-relieving chemicals. Acupuncture is also said to influence the autonomic nervous system (which controls bodily functions) and the release of chemicals that regulate blood flow and pressure, reduce inflammation, and calm the brain. After the treatment, some people feel relaxed, while others feel energetic, the results are positive.
