Srikakulam: In the wake of elections, static surveillance teams (SST) otherwise known as checking points have been arranged across the district to monitor regular movement of vehicles.

In total, 30 check points have been arranged across the district and three points were in each assembly segment and in all, 10 assembly segments these teams have started their work. At each check point, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), police constable and deputy tahsildar have been deployed.

These teams are monitoring vehicle movement, recording of number of vehicles and conduct verifications, if necessary, whether they are carrying illegally any material relating to polls to lure the voters. But these checking points have no facilities like water, table and chair. Due to scorching summer, the staff are unable to work here round-the-clock.

One team has to work 24 hours every day for all 30 days which is difficult task and pose health problems, said a checking point ASI on condition of anonymity to The Hans India. "In addition to these 30 check points, another 19 checking points are working all along the border area with Odisha state to prevent election related offences," said Superintendent of Police Addala Venkata Ratnam to this newspaper.
