District Superintendent of Police (SP) Aishwarya Rastogi informed that 1,000 posts have been sanctioned to Nellore for recruiting Mahila Police Volunteers (MPVs) at each gram panchayat, who would act as community cops in their jurisdiction.

Nellore: District Superintendent of Police (SP) Aishwarya Rastogi informed that 1,000 posts have been sanctioned to Nellore for recruiting Mahila Police Volunteers (MPVs) at each gram panchayat, who would act as community cops in their jurisdiction.

The SP also said that the women applicants having service motto and socially conscious and interested to work in rural areas can apply as volunteers, who would be paid an honorarium of Rs 1,000 per month.

Women applicants should not be less than 21 years of age, completed 12th standard or its equivalent course, should be from the same geographical area, no criminal background and should not be a member of any political party.

The volunteers would have to act as a liaison between the Police department and the community for protection of women rights and to create awareness among the communities in the gram panchayats. He also explained that priority will be given to NCC, NSS and related certificate holders.

The applications will be available at all police stations in the district from July 24 and candidates have to submit them before July 30. Interviews would be conducted from August 4 to 8, the SP added.
