Yamuna Pathak aims to transform people's lives

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP State Mahila Morcha vice-president Yamuna Pathak, who has over three decades of experience in the social work in the country and abroad, wants to contribute her best in resolving people's issues.

Speaking to The Hans India, Yamuna Pathak, known for being outspoken and making constructive criticism against the shortcomings in the system, said that she wanted administrative machinery, leaders and politicians more proactive in resolving people's problems by implementing programmes and policies as per the existing rules, norms and politicians fulfilling their assurances.

For this, she wants all the stakeholders: Government and administration, corporate sector and other stakeholders and people should join hands to improve living standards and create livelihood opportunities for the people.

A postgraduate in Social Works from Osmania University (OU), she says that her experience in social work helping her in addressing different issues.

The first stint in the social service sector had taken off while working with a project ' Youth Employment Summit' (Youth Campaign) of Education Development Center (EDC), at Boston in the United States.

As the deputy head of the YES Campaign, "I had to coordinate various activities with eight State governments in the country and YES Summit held in Hyderabad in 2003 had allowed leading and playing an active role," she said.

That apart, she represented India at Australia at an event attended by delegates from 37 countries on anti-terrorism, humanitarian law and civil rights. Yamuna Pathak is also the first non-European to attend the University of Gori in Eastern Europe to address students of Youth Parliament.

Besides, under the peer education programme she had also addressed doctors, government officials of the AIDS Control Society in that country. The Mahila Morcha leader also was one among the four selected as the Global Youth Leader for her work and as part of her social work activities, "I had to travel Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe, South Asian Countries and in all I trained around 7,000 youth as part of the peer education on HIV/AIDS and life skills."

However, after working for two years as a director in an export and imports company in UAE, she returned to the country and for the first time, "I had joined hands leading a protest on the issue of closing of roads in the Cantonment area posing problem for the residents in the vicinity," she added.

The first steps had further lead her to revive the Global Angles Jai Charitable Trust which she started in 2005 while studying the first year of her post-graduation at OU.

The trust takes up need-based initiatives to train the youth and make them employment ready and so far it has trained 1,700 youth and placed them, she said. That apart, taking up relief activities during floods at Alwal has made her fully immerse in several other activities in Malkajgiri area.

In turn, seeing her active participation in various peoples issues the BJP had invited her to join the party.

"I joined the party in the presence of BJP MLC N Ramchander Rao. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first thing that inspired me to join BJP.

Then, there are several other decisions of the BJP government at the Centre to give a direction with its revolutionary decisions to the country further inspired me to work for the party", she said.
