Woman killed, six grievously hurt in van-tanker collision in Munagala

Munagala (Suaryapet): One woman was killed and six others suffered injuries in a road accident that took place on NH-65 near Reliance petrol bunk on the outskirts of Akupamula village of Munagala mandal in the district on Thursday late night.

According to sources and Munagala SI Dasari Mahipal Reddy, a few residents of Patapatnam of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh were settled in Hyderabad. They were shifting one of their family members, Laxmamma (95), who fell sick, to their hometown in a Toofan van on Thursday night. However, Laxmamma breathed her last when the vehicle reached Suryapet town.

Meanwhile, while their Toofan vehicle was taking a u-turn near petrol bunk on the outskirts of Munagala, a tanker hit their vehicle on the rear end. In this incident, one of the eight passengers Challa Nagamma (55) suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, while other passengers J Lokesh, J Ranga Rao, J Ramya, J Mounika, P Babu Rao and driver Ch Nageshwar Rao suffered injuries. In the incident, the dead body of Laxmamma also fell on the road.

Soon after receiving information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured shifted to government hospital in Kodad for treatment. Later, three of the injured persons were shifted to Hyderabad for better medical care.

Based on the complaint of the kin of the injured, the police registered a case and initiated the probe.
