Water in Sagar reservoir reaches dead storage level

Nagarjunsagar (Nalgonda): Nagarjunsagar reservoir water levels have been depleting at a very faster rates due to increasing temperatures. The present water level at Sagar reservoir is 138.2128 tmc at 513.80 feet.

Dead storage level of reservoir is 510 feet which is just 3 feet below the present level. Last year, at this time water level in reservoir was 136.81 tmc at 513 feet and water ponds under the ayacut were filled. However, the situation is quite different now.

As per the directions of Krishna River Management Board, 2 tmc water has been released into right canal for irrigation needs.

The water level at upstream Srisailam project is 33.53 tmc at 808.80 feet. Twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad, villages and towns along the left and right canals and government's prestigious scheme Mission Bhagiratha are dependent on Nagarjunsagar reservoir.

Water will be used to cater to the drinking needs of people of two Telugu-speaking States. If water is released from Srisailam dam, people in all dependent villages and towns on Nagarjunasagar reservoir are likely to face hardships in the forthcoming days, water experts of Telangana and AP opined.
