Update: 2019-10-30 22:02 IST

Atmakur (Warangal Rural): The performance of police is on the rise since the formation of Telangana, Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao said. Inaugurating the Rs 1.10 crore model police station at Atmakur on Wednesday, he said that the TRS government took several initiatives to give a fillip to the police department that hitherto lacked infrastructural facilities.

"Before the formation of Telangana, the police didn't even have jeeps and they also struggled to get funds for fuel. However, the TRS government provided two vehicles each to every police station, thereby to enhance the performance of the personnel. Some politicos criticised the government's move," Errabelli said. Since they got vehicles, the police were able to attend the people's complaints within 10 minutes.

This has increased the reputation of police, he added.

This apart, the police were able to create a sense of confidence among the people using the technology in crime prevention and detection. The use of technology in crime has also increased conviction rate, the Minister said, pointing to the smart policing initiatives. Referring to the molestation and murder case of a nine-month-old infant, he said that Warangal Police Commissionerate create a sort of record by ensuring punishment to the accused.

"By consistently putting up a fine performance, the Telangana police proved that they are the best in the country. The crime rate has also come down considerably in the State," Errabelli claimed. Stating that the government was dealing land grabbers with iron hand, he said police will not spare anyone how big they may be.

The programme was presided over by Parkal MLA Challa Dharma Reddy, Warangal Rural District Collector M Haritha, Commissioner of Police V Ravinder, East Zone DCP Nagaraju, Police Housing Board DE Srinivas, Mamnoor ACP Shyamsundar, Atmakur, Geesukonda, Shayampet and Mamnoor inspectors Mahender, Siva Ramaiah, Venkateshwarlu and Raju were among others present.
