VH demands govt to scrap G O on Uranium exploration

Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and chairman of Committee Against Uranium Mining V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday demanded that the government scrap the order issued to allow exploration of Uranium in the State to prove its sincerity.

Addressing the media after meeting of the committee, he said that though the government passed a resolution in Assembly against exploration of Uranium in the State, it was not enough to prove its sincerity.

He said that the government must cancel the GO issued to allow the exploration of Uranium mining in Nallamala Forests.

He said that the permission given by the Wild-Life Board should also be cancelled.

Hanumantha Rao said soon they would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and urge them to stop exploration and mining of Uranium.

He said that during the meeting of the committee, the ill effects of the exploration and mining have been discussed. He said the pollution caused by Uranium exploration in Jharkhand has been discussed.

He said that people of Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh are also opposing Uranium mining. He said that the mining would have lot of adverse effects on the lives of the people.

He said the people of Hyderabad would also face the ill effects of Uranium as they drink water of Krishna River.

He said that fight against the Uranium mining should be done notwithstanding the political affiliations.
