Hanamkonda: The employees in the unorganised sector have little access to institutionalised social security and are the most vulnerable, Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said. Speaking at a seminar on 'The Impact of Globalisation on Trade unions' at the Jaffer Nizam hall in the SDLCE, Kakatiya University (KU), here on Monday, he said that workers engaged in unorganised sector are subjected to exploitation.

"These workers are under paid and have no job security. Moreover, they are forced to work under unhygienic conditions," Vinay Bhaskar said, stating that unorganised sector has become a major concern for the government. Despite several protective legislations brought in by the government for the welfare of workers, those working in the unorganised sector are facing innumerable problems due to lack of awareness about them, he said.

Further, he expressed concern over the construction workers. Referring to the provisions such as health insurance, general insurance and a pension scheme the construction workers have, Vinay Bhaskar said that it's unfortunate that these workers are failing to make use of such benefits. "The TRS government led by K Chandrashekar Rao is committed to bring cheers in the lives of working class," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, All India Universities Employees Confederation (AIUEC) vice-president Dr Pulla Srinivas said: "Globalisation is the biggest challenge the trade unions are facing. Rising trend of unequal income distribution, the working class has become more vulnerable. The onus is on trade unions to defend the rights of workers." He emphasised the need for airing the grievances of workers. He said that trade union movement is one of the most dynamic that tackles the problems arising out of globalisation.

Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samithi Karmika Vibhagam (TRSKV) State president Rambabu Yadav will take part in the three-day May Day celebration that begins on Tuesday in Warangal.

BSNL employees State president Sampath Rao, postal department union president Venkateshwar Rao, SDLCE press and media in-charge Dr Sangala Ephraim Raj, Mettu Ravi, Sangala Rajamouli, K Chiranjeevi, N Ailaiah, Puli Rajanikanth, Shivashankar, G Raju, Jayaprakash, Shobhan, Manohar, Laxman, Karunakar, K Srinivas, MS Babu and Suresh were among others present.
