Twist of fate: Ex-MPTC becomes MLA, Ex- MLA becomes ZPTC in Yadadri-Bhongir
Yadadri-Bhongir: In a twist of fate, once an MPTC, Gongidi Sunitha has become the present MLA of Aler Assembly constituency, while Dr Kududula Nagesh, an MLA of Aler constituency during 2004-2009 in united Andhra Pradesh, has now become a ZPTC from Aler mandal.
Dr Kududula Nagesh, eyeing the Zilla Parishad chairman post of Yadadri-Bhongir district, contested as ZPTC from Aler mandal on a Congress ticket and won the seat on Tuesday. He is the only ZPTC candidate won from Congress from Aler constituency and one of the three ZPTCs won from Congress in the district. Now Nagesh have to remain as ZPTC for the next five years as TRS bagged 14 ZPTC seats of the total 17 ZPTC seats in Yadadri-Bhongir district.
Nagesh, a native of Raghavapuram of Aler mandal, in 1994 and 1999 Assembly elections, was defeated by his political rival Mothukupally Narsimhulu from Aler (SC) reserved constituency. However, he won the Aler Assembly seat in 2004 general election and in 2008 bye-election as a TRS candidate against Narsimhulu. In 2009, he could not get ticket from TRS as the Aler constituency became General from SC Reserved in reorganization of constituencies in the State. In 2009 elections, he tested his luck from Aler constituency on BSP ticket, but was once again defeated by Narsimhulu. In 2014, he joined the Congress.
On the other hand, Aler MLA Gongidi Sunitha entered politics in 2001 by joining the TRS party. She won the Yadagirigutta MPTC, MPP from 2001-2006 and also became the Sarpanch of Vangapally village of Yadagirigutta mandal during 2006-2011. She tried MLA ticket from TRS from Aler constituency in 2009, but the ticket was given to TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao's close aide Kallem Yadagiri Reddy. In that election, the TRS lost the sitting seat. In 2014, she got the chance to contest as TRS MLA candidate from Aler and she won the election and became the Government whip in first term of TRS government. In 2018 Assembly elections, she retained the Aler seat. There are chances of her securing a berth in state cabinet in the next expansion under women's quota.
