TSPCB chief stresses on maintaining better environment
Hyderabad: Chief Advisor to Telangana Government and State Pollution Control Board chairman Dr. Rajiv Sharma stressed on the need for maintaining sustainable efforts by industries and public for better environment.
Dr. Sharma was addressing a seminar on "Air Pollution and its impact on Safety and Health at Work" organised by the Institution of Engineers (India) on Tuesday.
He deliberated on effects of air Pollutants on health of public and spoke on urbanisation, industrialisation and its impact on environment. He also touched upon non-communicable diseases due to air pollutants. He expressed concern over increase in number of vehicles and resultant pollution in cities and stressed need for self-restriction. It was also informed that new changes are proposed to decrease pollution due to demolishing of structures using closed containers and proper recycling of debris. He informed that pollution Control Board is taking necessary initiatives to curb air pollutants.
Mines & Geology Department Director BRV Susheel Kumar discussed on technological development and its effects on environment. He stressed the need for action from all the concerned for improving ambient air quality. Increase in population, increase in their demands for better life is one of the reasons for the air pollutants. We cannot avoid the technological development but concrete measures shall be taken to take care of its side effects, he said.
Chief Inspector of Factories Y Mohan Babu spoke on indoor air quality in manufacturing sectors and the effects of air pollutants on the health of workers. Identification of the sources of air pollutants, controlling them by better engineering models is the need of the hour. He also spoke about various health hazards from occupations and stressed that Decent Work includes right to breathe unpolluted air.
Dr G Rameshwar Rao, Chairman, IEI, TSC presided over the function. Dr P Narayana Rao, Former Member, APPCB briefed about the Seminar. Earlier, T Anjaiah, FIE, Hon. Secretary, IEI, TSC welcomed the gathering and Prof. G Radhakrishna, FIE, Jt. Hon. Secretary, IEI, TSC proposed vote of thanks.
