Tribal girl from Mahabubabad gets prestigious ISCA Travel Award
Mahabubabad: D Anjali, a tribal girl, who hails from a nondescript village in Mahabubabad district, on Saturday received the prestigious 'Infosys Foundation – ISCA Travel Award'.
She received it from none other than 2004 Nobel Laureate Prof Ada Yonath, Israeli scientist at the 107th Indian Science Congress in Bengaluru.
Anjali, who is studying in Class IX at Zilla Parishad Secondary School at Kambalapally, is the only tribal girl from Telangana who got selected for the award.
It may be mentioned here that the organisers impressed with the paper she presented on developments in science that had influenced her in the last two years.
Her write up on ISRO's Chandrayaan, grassroot agriculture weeder technology, advances in biotechnology in agriculture and the benefits of Nano medicines earned her the award.
She is one among the 10 selected by the Congress from India. Her mentor and physical science teacher Dr V Gurunadha Rao was also present.
