Telangana State government seeks Centre's help for return of Telanganites stranded in Iraq

Hyderabad: Telangana State government sought the immediate intervention of the External Affairs Ministry and the Indian Consulate at Erbil, Iraq for repatriation of 17 persons stranded in the Gulf country.

In a message to the Indian Consulate in Erbil and the Union Ministry of External Affairs, the State Chief Secretary said 17 persons from Macherial, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Jagtial districts had gone to the Iraqi Kurdistan capital of Erbil for livelihood.

However, the persons in question from the State were taken for a ride and landed in Erbil through fake agents and they don't have Akhamas, (valid documents). Following this, the immigrants have been facing trouble due to lack of food, accommodation and getting into problems there.

The message said that the family members of the 17 stranded people from the State are worried about their safety and health and sought the help of the government to coordinate with the local authorities and repatriate them to India from Erbil, the CS said in his message.

The stranded people from Telangana in Erbil are Duram Chandraiah from Macherial district; Dururi Gopal, Ankiti Sathaiah, Chityala Chinna Narasaiah from Adilabad district; Battu Gangadhar, Kalla Srinivas, Kustapuram Premchandar, Bhumesh Sakali, Gotrala Ashok from Nizamabad district; Amrireddy Tirupathi Reddy, Rajesham Regula, Uppari Anil, Dyraveni Srinivas from Karimnagar district, Lakshmi Narayana Palleria, Mamideipelli Prasanth and Sirkonda Venkatesh from Jagtial district. That apart, Pasi Diwan who is also from Telangana is stranded in Erbil, he added.

Giving details of the 17 persons to the Consulate General of India at Erbil, the State government requested it to take necessary steps to repatriate them to India as early as possible.

Besides, the Minister of External and Overseas Indian Affairs is also requested to take up the matter with the Consulate General of India at Erbil for the early repatriation of the stranded people.
