Telangana: Report of locusts arrival sent people into tizzy in Bhupalapally

Report of locusts arrival and damaging the crops sent the farmers into a tizzy in Peddampet village of Mahadevpur Mandal in Bhupalapally on Saturday.

With the reports arriving from various corners, the officials of agriculture department rushed to the village and inspected the plants. Agriculture officer Prabhavati sent photos of the locusts on the plants to the higher authorities. The officials who examined the photos confirmed that those are not the kind of locusts arriving from Maharashtra side and are of the local variety.

The farmers in the village breathed a sigh of relief after the officials gave a clarification. The officials also asked the farmers not to fear them.

In the wake of locusts attack in Maharashtra, the Telangana government alerted eight districts of the state that include Bhadrachalam, Charla, Venkatapuram, Vajedu, Peruru, Mangampet, Eturunagaram, Chennuru, Vemanapalli, Koutala, Dharmabad, Bodhan, Jukkal, Banswada, Narayankhed and Zaheerabad.
