Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao said the State unit will fight tooth and nail against those trying to bury the spirit of patriotic nationalism in Telangana for the last 70 years.

Addressing a gathering at the State party headquarters here on Thursday on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day celebrations, he recalled the sacrifices made by people against the Nizam State to merge Telangana with Indian Union.

However, the party which has come to power has failed to pay tributes to the freedom fighters of the State by failing to honour September 17, on which the State had breathed freedom along with all other citizens in the country, he said.

"The Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had shown the courage to end the discrimination being inflicted upon SC, ST, OBCs and women by revoking Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir," he said. Similarly, the party has resolved to take forward a movement to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Telangana.

"BJP will celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 officially," he said.

BJP State unit president K Laxman said people of Telangana have shown their support to the party giving the party 20 per cent vote share in 20 Assembly constituencies.

This shows how people in the State are fed up with the corruption, debt-ridden, dynastic politics of the ruling TRS. Accusing that the TRS, Congress and TDP were trying to suppress the history of freedom fighters and martyrs in Telangana, he said the BJP alone showed the courage to end the 72-year oppression unleashed against people under Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir.

He vowed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah the party will ensure celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day.

Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya asked people to stand solidly behind the leadership of the Prime Minister to completely wipe out terrorism from the country.

He also stressed on the necessity to stand united to face any challenges that Pakistan would pose to the country against the backdrop of revoking Article 370.
