Warangal: The Students Federation of India (SFI) leaders demanded that the State government must take immediate steps for filling of teacher, lecturer and professor posts besides addressing other issues faced by the students. Buoyant over the success of their 3rd Telangana State Maha Sabha held from August 2 to 4, the SFI State leaders organised a press conference on Kakatiya University (KU) campus here on Monday to brief the resolutions adopted and their future course of action.

On the other hand, 4,442 lecturer posts in junior colleges and 2,730 degree lecturer posts are vacant. The higher education in universities has also taken a dent with number of vacancies increasing by every year, they said. They demanded the Central government not to meddle with the education sector and stop its designs to divide people on communal lines.

The leaders demanded the government to introduce a fee regulation act besides strengthening committees that look after its implementation. The leaders also demanded immediate payment of fee reimbursement and scholarships, taking control of aided institutions, conduct of student union elections, hike in mess and cosmetic charges, construction of own buildings for welfare hostels, legislation to stop attacks against women, adequate funds for universities and withdrawal of its decision to close schools.

It may be mentioned here that the SFI Maha Sabha elected new State Committee with 27 of the 94 members (two co-option) as office bearers. Bashaboina Santhosh as State vice-president, Thangalapally Raghu, M Sultana and Burra Veerabhadram as State committee members from Warangal Urban district.
