SCRPS Urges Action Against Misuse of SC Reservations by Converted Christians in Jogulamba Gadwal

Gadwal: The SC Reservation Protection Committee (SCRPS) submitted a formal representation today to Additional District Collector V. Lakshminarayana in Jogulamba Gadwal district, raising serious concerns over the alleged misuse of Scheduled Caste (SC) reservations by individuals who have converted to Christianity but continue to hold and benefit from SC certificates.

According to the SCRPS, a significant number of individuals across the district who originally belonged to Hindu Scheduled Castes have converted to Christianity and come under the BC–C category as per the 1950 Presidential Order of the Constitution of India. Despite this, they are reportedly continuing to avail themselves of SC reservations in education, employment, and political sectors—an act the committee describes as illegal and detrimental to genuine Hindu SC beneficiaries.

The committee alleged that the core reason for this misuse is the lack of proper verification at the field level when issuing SC certificates. Due to insufficient scrutiny, individuals who no longer legally qualify for SC status are managing to retain and use their certificates, thereby depriving rightful SC communities of constitutionally mandated benefits.

In their petition, the SCRPS urged the district administration to:

1. Strengthen verification mechanisms during the issuance of SC certificates at the field level.

2. Identify individuals who have unlawfully availed SC reservations after converting to Christianity.

3. Revoke their SC certificates and initiate action as per the law.

4. Protect the rights of genuine Hindu SC communities, ensuring that reservation benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

The Additional District Collector reportedly responded positively and assured the committee that the matter would be examined seriously.

Prominent members who participated in the delegation included National Treasurer Myathri Balaram, State Working President C.B. Venkatesh, State General Secretary Uppula Narasimha, along with Boyinapalli Krishna, Etti Raju, Prashanth, and others.

The SCRPS emphasized that safeguarding the sanctity of SC reservations is essential to uphold constitutional justice and prevent systemic deprivation of opportunities for genuine Scheduled Caste communities.
