Hanamkonda: The biggest challenge before the world is safeguarding of biological diversity, Chief Conservator of Forest MJ Akbar said, speaking at a workshop on 'Biological Diversity – Importance – Implementation of Act' jointly organised Jana Vignana Vedika and Vana Seva Society in Hanamkonda on Monday.

The workshop was organised in connection with the 'International Day for Biological Diversity' scheduled for May 22. He said that onus is on everyone to safeguard and enhance biological diversity.

The need of the hour is to understand the sensitivity of the ecosystem, which is fast deteriorating due to overexploitation, he said.

Akbar, who dwelt at length about the regulatory functions of forests, unprecedented biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation the world is witnessing appealed to people to safeguard the biodiversity for future generations.

Retired professors Singaramacharya and Ramulu expounded about the measures to be taken for safeguarding and enhancing the biological diversity. D Veena Vani, FRO, discussed about the implementation of Biological Diversity Act.

The workshop was coordinated by DFO Warangal Rural K Purushotham. Prof Padmavathi, Prof Chukkaiah, Potlapalli Veerabhadraiah, Naresh, Damodar and Ch Shyamsundar Sarma were among others present.
