Ryots getting restive as monsoon gets delayed further

Vikarabad: After the entry of Kharif season and post 'Eruvaka Pournami,' farmers are eagerly waiting for rain drops, as there is no sign of any rain soon. Almost all the farmers are ready with seeds sown and fertilisers, as maximum percentage of the people's main livelihood is agriculture. Severe heat wave conditions in the mornings is keeping the temperatures high, and it is making farmers wait for fertility, as crops will be lost if there is no fertile land.

There are 1.5 lakh hectares agricultural land all together in Parigi, Kodangal, Vikarabad, and Tandur constituencies and 18 villages. Cotton, corn, red gram are the major crops, whereas turmeric is the financial crop in these areas. Millets and pulses are the traditional crops. Some give priority to vegetables in Kharif. Tomato, brinjal, carrot, ridge guard, okra, bitter guard, and green chilies are the most crops preferred.

Cotton is mainly preferred by many farmers on the field. Though cotton yield was not much expected last year, people are showing interest for cotton as the Centre gave Minimum Support Price (MST) of Rs 5,450 for each quintal, which made people to overcome the loss of fewer yields.

After the dew drops which fallen before 'Mrugasira Karthe,' farmers showed interest for planting and seed shops were filled with customers. Farmers in the areas like Andichittampally, Changomul, Kankal, Thirmalpurthanda, Rakamcharla, Pedda Ummenthal and Nawabpet have planted some cotton seeds in the field. People of Antharam, Asthepur and Koukuntla in Ranga Reddy division are ready for plantation.
