Plastic prevention is everyone's responsibility: Collector Devasena
Peddapalli: It is the responsibility of everyone to stop using plastic items to make Peddapalli as a plastic-free district, said District Collector Devasena. She along with Peddapalli MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy participated in Swachh Friday programme, that was held on either side of the road from Rangampalli to Shanti Nagar on Rajiv Gandhi national highway in Peddapalli on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Devasena said the officials and the locals had collected about 10 quintals of waste plastic items in a single day. With this huge waste plastic collected in a single day, people can imagine how much plastic is being used, which harms the environment. The plastic usage not only damaged the environment but also causes various types of diseases like cancer, asthma etc to the
people. Keeping in view of the health of the people and to protect the environment, the State government had banned the single-use plastic, she added.
The Collector said that with the inspiration derived from the success of 30-day action plan and with the suggestion given by Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao, plastic collection programme is being conducted under the four municipalities present under Peddapalli district as part of Swachh Hi Seva programme.
Small children participating actively in collecting plastic and waste materials is a good sign. Any programme will become a success only with the participation of people. People must realize this and must come forward to keeping their surroundings clean and tidy and must stop using plastic items to protect the environment, she suggested.
Peddapalli Revenue Divisional Officer Upendar Reddy, Chief Planning Officer Ismail, District Youth and Sports Officer Raja Veeru, District Rural Water Supply Officer and District Public Relation Officer Sridhar were present along with students of various educational institutions and officials of various departments.
