Gadwal: The long wait of onion farmers from Gadwal has finally come to an end with the inauguration of new Onion Procurement Centre at Agriculture Market Yard in Alampur on Thursday.

District Collector Shashank, along with Alampur MLA M A Abraham inaugurated the new procurement centre at the Agriculture Market Yard. After inaugurating the centre, they said that this is a great opportunity for the onion farmers to utilise and sell their produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP) and earn good profits.

The farmers of Alampur constituency in Gadwal district are known for the production of onions. However, these farmers were facing lot of problems as they did not have proper marketing facilities for their produce. Moreover, the farmers were forced to sell their produce to the middlemen and brokers right at their fields for a very low selling price.

But with the inauguration of a new Onion Procurement Centre at Alampur agriculture market yard, now the onion farmers can utilise this opportunity and sell directly to the government at Minimum Support Price offered and can earn good returns. "Onions are perishable commodities and if proper care or if no proper storage facility is available the farmers will be at a great loss. However, keeping in all these aspects in mind, we have provided all kinds of facilities at the Almapur agriculture market yard, where the farmers can store their stocks and can sell it at MSP rates and can earn good profits instead of selling at low prices to the middlemen and traders," Gadwal Collector Shashank said.

The Alampur MLA thanked the government for setting up a procurement centre for the onion farmers in the constituency and said that it will help the farmers a great deal. He urged the farmers to utilise the facility and earn good profits.
