Nawaz Jung remembered in Hanamkonda

Hanamkonda: The employees of Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) paid rich tributes to Mir Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur, the Chief Engineer in the Princely State of Hyderabad ruled by Nizams, on the occasion of his 142nd birth anniversary, which is also observed as 'Telangana Engineer's Day', here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, NPDCL C&MD Annamaneni Gopal Rao, who equated Nawaz Jung with Sir Arthur Cotton, described him as the architect of irrigation projects in Telangana. Rao said that Nizamsagar, Osmansagar, Himayathsagar and Alisagar are some of the important projects designed and constructed under the supervision of Nawaz Jung.

Historical Arts College of Osmania University, Jubilee Hall, Hyderabad House in Delhi and State Central Library are some of other constructions designed and constructed under Nawaz Jung, he said. Nawaz Jung played a key role in the water sharing of Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers between Madras and Hyderabad governments, he added.
