MPTC, ZPTC polls counting on June 4
Hyderabad: Telangana State Election Commission on Tuesday announced that the counting of votes of MPTCs and ZPTCs elections will be done on June 4 from 8 am onwards and results will be declared immediately after completion of the counting of votes.
The TSEC had earlier postponed the counting of votes for MPTC, ZPTC polls for want of amendment in the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018 to enable to hold a special meeting of Mandal Praja Parishads and Zilla Praja Parishads after the results of the Ordinary elections to elect President and Vice-President of Mandal Praja Parishad and Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons of Zilla Praja Parishad.
Acting on the proposal of TSEC, the State Government issued an Ordinance No. 2 of 2019 on 27-05-2019 making necessary amendments to Sub-Section 11 of Section 147 and Sub-Section 9 of Section 176 of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018. Originally, the counting of votes was scheduled on May 27. However, it was postponed following objections raised by political parties on the long gap of over 40 days between the date of counting of votes and date of indirection elections which they feared could lead to horse trading and other malpractices.
