Farmers burning paddy bags at a PACS centre in Nasrullabad village on Friday

Mahbubnagar: Farmers were enraged at the negligence of the PACS authorities after their weighed paddy bags at Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) procurement centre were robbed and put fire to their paddy bags at Nasurullabad village of Jadcherla mandal in the district on Friday.

The paddy farmers said that they were told that paddy procurement centre was set up at Badepally market yard to purchase produce from the farmers of Nasrullabad village. On the first day, the PACS authorities procured the paddy from the farmers at minimum support price of Rs 1,868 and kept the weighed bags in the open without giving the final receipt of procurement to the farmers.

When the farmers approached the PACS authorities to get their receipts for their weighed paddy bags, the authorities informed that a few bags were missing from the earlier count and they gave receipts for the bags present on the spot only. With this, the paddy farmers became angry and put fire to a few bags.

The PACS authorities and agriculture officials have intervened and pacified the farmers and brought the issue under control.

The farmers complained that each farmer lost at least four bags, which is a big loss to them. It is because of the PACS authorities we lost our paddy bags, they criticized and demanded the higher ups to take stern action against those responsible.
