Mosquito nets ready for distribution in tribal villages in Kothagudem district

Kothagudem: In order to prevent spread of malaria, dengue and other viral fevers, the district medical and health department have planned to distribute 56,100 mosquito net to tribal families in 293 hamlets identified in the district through Asha workers.

The distribution will begin from next week and mosquito nets were shifted to primary health centres.

The officials have identified 444 high risk villages in the district and planned to do indoor residual spray twice from June 15. They also planned door-to-door rapid fever survey in all villages from July 7 to 17 in the district. Medical and health officials have planned to leave about 2.5 lakh gambusia fish in water tanks and wells to kill larva of mosquitoes.

According to the officials, as many as 215 malaria cases were reported in the district till date while 694 cases were reported last year. Also, 10 dengue cases were reported till date against 694 cases reported last year by this time.

District Malaria Officer Mokalla Venkateswara Rao said that their main focus is to put a check on malaria fever and concentrating on migrant labourers, who come to the State from Odisha and Chhattisgarh, which are close to TS border. He said that they are collecting blood samples of migrant labourers and treatment will be given if they have malaria. He said they are focussing on tribal villages mainly as most of the malaria cases out of the 215 existing were reported from remote and tribal villages.
