Kite and Sweet festival 2021 in Hyderabad for Sankranti cancelled due to pandemic
In view of the prevailing coronavirus situation in the state, the kite and sweet festival which is held every year has been cancelled. The international kite and sweet festival is organized by the Tourism department of the state in which kite flyers from different countries come together
B Manohar, managing director of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) said that they have decided to cancel the kite and sweet festival this year, putting the lives of people on priority. "We are forced to cancel the festival which usually witnesses lakhs of people. Last year, the festival saw more than 10 lakh people and having such a huge gathering during the current situation increases the risk of infections," he said.
According to the TSTDC, around 40 kite flyers from 15 countries and 60 from the country would participate in the festival with their beautiful kites.
Besides bringing a loss to the entrepreneurs, citizens also miss out on hundreds of sweets and snacks stalls with delicacies from various parts of the world. It is expected that the sweet festival is likely to be held in June on the state formation day, however, no confirmation is obtained yet.
