MMTS loco pilot Chandrasekhar dies after battling for life for 5 days

Hyderabad: MMTS loco pilot Chandrashekhar, who suffered serious injuries when his train was involved in a head-on collision with Hundry Express at Kacheguda station on November 11, died of cardiac arrest on Saturday evening.

Shekhar, 36, has been receiving treatment at Care Nampally for last five days. Despite doctors' best efforts, the loco pilot's health condition deteriorated and ultimately, he died. He was stuck in MMTS engine cabin for nearly 8 hours after which he was pulled out by the rescue teams.

On Thursday, the right leg was amputated after which he was put on mechanical ventilator support and continuous renal replacement therapy with inotropic support and medications to maintain haemodynamics, according to doctors.

He also developed disseminated intravascular coagulation and received multiple blood and blood products.

Care doctors stated that crush inquiries to the lower limbs have caused severe compression of arteries of limbs.

On the evening of the accident, Dr Sushma Rani, medical superintendent of CARE Hospitals, Nampally stated that he suffered from cardiac arrest while being rushed to the hospital from accident site. He was revived using cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"The loco pilot suffered from rib fractures, haemorrhagic shock. Internal bleeding was suspected as there was blood in the urine. Blood supply to lower limbs decreased.

Doctors from multiple specialities such as vascular surgeons, orthopedicians attended him.
