Khammam: Importance of breastfeeding reiterated

Khammam: District Collector RV Karnan reiterated that there was no substitute for mother's milk and mothers should continue breastfeeding their children at least till they attain the age of two. The Collector took part in the breastfeeding week celebrations in Khammam on Monday and explained the role of mother's milk in the growth of infants.

Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chief Executive Officer Priyanka said feeding the baby within half-an-hour of baby's birth was key to baby health. "Mother's milk has every essential nutrient necessary for the good health of the baby and breastfeeding should be vigorously encouraged," she said.

Informing that August first week is being celebrated a breastfeeding week, she called upon Anganwadi teachers and supervisors to campaign vigorously on the need for breastfeeding. District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kalavathi Bai also spoke.

District Child and Development Officer Varalaxmi, Medical Officers Dr Krupa Ushasri, Dr Venkateswarlu, Immunisation Officer Dr Alivelu, Poshan Abhiyan officers and staff, government hospital doctors, ANMs and Asha workers attended the programme.
