I-T Queries on Assets : MLAs jittery but deny dept claims
Hyderabad: The notices served on some Telangana legislators by the Income Tax department seeking explanation on the steep increase of their income and assets between 2014 and 2019 gave jitters to the people's representatives.
However, some of the MLAs made it clear that they did not receive any such notices till date.
Based on the affidavits submitted along with their nominations filed before the Election Commission in the recently-held Assembly elections, the I-T department issued notices to many legislators elected from the ruling and also Opposition parties.
However, some of them maintained that they did not receive any notices so far.
State Health Minister Eatala Rajender clarified that he neither received a notice from the I-T department nor any query from its officials about the assets he and his family members possessed.
The minister maintained that he is prompt in filing IT returns every year and there is no question of mismatching the details furnished in the affidavits in 2014 and 2019 elections.
The legislators, who received notices, said it is only a formality and they will furnish all the details sought by the department after consulting the tax experts.
The other MLAs said that they had already sent required information to the I-T department.
Officials said that the I-T department had analysed the affidavits filed by the legislators in 2014 and 2019 elections along with the nomination papers to the Election Commission.
