Hyderabad: Special Chief Secretary (Animal Husbandry) Poonam Malakondaiah stressed the need to realise women's rights. The institutions and individuals too should extend their cooperation to the government to empower women.

Addressing a meeting organized on the occasion of International Women's Day at VIT-AP on Friday, she asked men to respect and protect women rights. She said only educated men and women can bring about this social change.

Deepthi Vajpayee, senior journalist, said that 30 percent of the staff and faculty at VIT AP university are women. She described it as a progressive step.

GV Selvam, vice-president VIT AP University, felicitated Poonam Malakondaiah and Deepthi Vajpeye on the occasion.
