Hyderabad: Congress party MP from Bhongir Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Wednesday demanded a probe into the irregularities in the acquisition of land for the construction of Pharma City in the State.

Komatireddy called on Union Industries and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and submitted a representation in this regard. He alleged that the rulers of the State were doing real estate business over thousands of acres of land in the name of the Pharma City.

He said that the poor farmers were forced to part with their lands for the Pharma City. The land was being bought for just Rs 8 lakh per acre from the farmers and the same being sold for Rs 1 crore per acre to the owners of the pharma companies, he alleged.

He made it clear that the Pharma City project did not require 19,000 acres of land. It would lead to a huge amount of pollution in the State and added that it would also destroy tanks and pollute groundwater in the State. He urged the Minister to hold a comprehensive inquiry into the irregularities and stop the project. He told the Minister that the project should be stopped as it was taken up in clear violation of rules.
