Hyderabad: HM Mohammed Mahmood Ali comments on murder draw flak
Hyderabad: Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali's controversial comments on the alleged brutal murder of veterinary doctor Priyanka Reddy drew strong criticism from the civil and women groups.
The minister said on Friday that the alleged rape and murder of the veterinary doctor could have been prevented had she called up the police rather than her sister, upon sensing danger. "We are saddened by the incident.
Telangana police are efficient in controlling crime. It is unfortunate that despite being educated, she called up her sister and did not dial the police helpline number--100. Had she called up the police, she could have been saved," Mahmood Ali said.
Soon after receiving a backlash from different sections, the Home Minister clarified that he just gave advice and did not mean that he is insensitive. He stated that the government will extend all kinds of assistance to the victim's family.
