Hyderabad: EPTRI launches programme on green skill development

Hyderabad: EPTRI is conducting certificate courses on various topics of environment protection and management under Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP)of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change, Government of India (MoEF & CC, GoI). Green skills are the technical skills, knowledge, values and attitudes needed in the workforce to develop and support sustainable social, economic and environmental outcomes in business, industry and the community.

On Friday, EPTRI Director General and Principal Secretary to Government C. Partha Sarathi inaugurated two courses on ETP/STP/CETP and Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Green GDP at EPTRI. Each course has a batch size of 25.

The aims and objectives of the GSDP training programmes are to enhance the Green skills of the trainees to contribute to India achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) while providing the trainees employment opportunities.

India is a young Nation; unemployment rate is very high every year 80 lakhs of youth entering the job market with age group between 20-24 years. Govt. of India the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has initiated the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) under Environment and Forest sector on 14th May, 2018 to provide Employment & Entrepreneur skills to youth across the country.

The GSDP has more than 44 certificate courses/training programmes on offer to skill enthusiasts across the country to enhance their green skills.

World over, the importance of Green Economy & Green GDP is on the rise and all Govt.'s have already initiated various steps towards that end. Mere economic development at the cost of environment and eco system is the peril of human race.

Environmental awareness, significance of conserving biodiversity are assuming lot of importance in the present day Environment Protection Training & Research Institute is a recognised, accredited premier institute in the country dealing with environment protection and building awareness on issues related to ecology (pollution, air, water, soil, biodiversity conservation of natural resources, etc.,).

Under GSDP, EPTRI has conducted 10 programmes during 2018-2019 and during 2019-2020 nine training programmes are sanctioned. Presently two Certificate courses are in Progress. They are "Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Green GDP" and "STP / ETP/ CETP Operation and Maintenance".
