Hyderabad: Coronavirus hit daily wage workers

Hyderabad: After the order of lockdown till March 31st, the daily wage workers have left with no other option but to remove their savings for their daily needs.

Most of the city markets wear a deserted look. From roadside eateries to stalls offering scarfs and electricians to cloth pressers many are badly affected. This has led to a drastic dip in their daily earnings. Many workers say that they had to return back home with just 30 per cent.

Balamma, a cloth presser in RK Puram said, "Coronavirus is ruining my business. There are rarely people who give their clothes to iron. I am scared that I would be running into debts. After the curfew, I was forced to open my shop hoping for even a couple of customers to coming to shop."

Hailing from Warangal, Ravi Goud, a construction worker in Dr. AS Rao Nagar said, "The building works here has been stopped after the 'Janta Curfew'. On a daily basis, I was given Rs 700. Now since the work has been stopped, we are forced to remove our savings for our daily needs."

Krishnaiah, a coconut water vendor in Malkajgiri said, "Every year the sales of the coconut water used to increase. But now since rarely, people are getting out of their houses, I am not even able to earn Rs 150."

Workers who go to their daily adda and wait for their work also impacted and most of them had to return their homes without any work. There was a time when the streets of Secunderabad and Ameerpet that have turned into a deserted area with no buyers and sellers.

There was a time when the Necklace road had several roadside eateries and stalls, which has now turned into empty streets.
