Hyderabad: Civic works at a feverish pitch

Hyderabad: With an eye on the Greater Hyderabad civic body polls, corporators seem to be more active in the last few weeks. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections are likely to be held in December this year. In several areas across the city, there is a sudden spurt in civic works.

While big projects such as the opening of the steel bridge near Nagarjuna Circle, flyovers at Bio-Diversity junction and L B Nagar and speeding up the cable-bridge across Durgam Cheruvu are known, in the last few weeks, there has been thrust to civic works such as laying of internal roads, replacing old drainage pipes, recarpeting roads, replacing old water-pipe lines is underway in the colonies.

Rekha P, a resident of Sainathpuram, says, "An internal road at Sainathpuram was long pending and it came as a pleasant surprise to know that it is being taken up. Three days ago, JCBs were pressed into service and work began. All these years, we tried getting in touch with the corporator Mumtaz Fatima but to no avail."

The laying of CC roads is being done in several places such as Chilkula Nagar, Habsiguda, Amberpet, Bagh Amberpet, Golnaka, Kacheguda, Ramanthapur, Uppal and other areas. Similarly, in the eastern part of the city, drainage overflow at Kamala Nagar Association office was taken up in A S Rao Nagar division. In Mallapur division, CC road works are underway at Baba Nagar colony.

Uppal MLA Beti Subash Reddy inaugurated 400 meters of CC road works being undertaken at Padmarao Nagar colony of Kapra division on Sunday.
