Hyderabad: BC leaders seek increased budget allocation in Saifabad

Saifabad: A team of BC leaders led by the R Krishnaiah, president of BC welfare association, met the state finance minister Harish Rao at his office on Monday and urged him to allocate Rs 10,000 crore for BC welfare in the forthcoming state budget.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Krishnaiah said that they urged the finance minister to allocate Rs 5,000 crore for subsidy loans given through BC corporation. While 5.75 lakh BCs applied for subsidy loans two years ago, the loans were sanctioned only to 40,000 applicants, he said. Additional funds were sought for 12 BC caste federations based on their population. The minister was also urged to allocate Rs 600 crore for construction of new buildings for recently sanctioned BC gurukul schools and social welfare hostels. Additional allocations in the budget were sought for fee reimbursement for BC students, mess charges and scholarships.

Among those who met the minister were vice president of BC welfare association Gujja Krishna, Venkatesh, Krishna Yadav, Chandrashekhar Goud, Raj Kumar and others.
