Hanamkonda: Stopgap RTC workers seek jobs

Hanamkonda: The temporary drivers and conductors, who served during the TSRTC employees' 52-day strike, on Monday urged the authorities to continue their services. It may be recalled here that RTC had engaged drivers and conductors to ply the buses, when its employees across the State went on strike on October 5, pressing for merger of Corporation with the State government and other 26 demands. Calling off the strike, they returned to the duties on November 29, thus ending the temporary workers' stint with the RTC.

"We came forward to extend our services when the RTC was in dire need of operating buses for the convenience of the people. We tried our best to cooperate with the RTC authorities and followed their instructions promptly. We also pinned our hopes that the government would help us if there was any opportunity in the future," the workers said. The temporary workers further added that they had worked 16 hours to 18 hours during the strike period. The workers urged the government to fill the vacancies utilising their services. They also urged the authorities to issue service certificate for the period they had worked for the RTC.

The workers said that they would submit a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and RTC Warangal Regional Manager. Employees Narsimha, Mirja Habib Baig, P Sampthat, Md Javed, U Sampath, P Vinay Kumar, B Mohan, B Ramanatham, Umarani, Sunitha, C Ravinder, E Narasimha, Harini, Priyanka, Saritha, Shailaja, Yakoob and M Suresh were present.
