Hanamkonda: Bank strike effects transactions

Update: 2019-10-22 21:38 IST

Hanamkonda: Banking operations were partially hit on Tuesday in Hanamkonda as the employees of various banks went on a 24-hour strike on Tuesday, following a nation-wide call by bank employee unions.

The unions gave a 24-hour long strike from Tuesday to Wednesday, protesting the merger of banks and fall in deposit rates.

Services like cash deposit and withdrawals and cheque clearances were impacted due to the strike by banking staff.

CITU leaders extended their support to the bank employees' strike. The leaders alleged that the SBI ownership has been shifted from Reserve Bank of India to the Central government only to privatise it.

Even the voting right has been increased from one percent to 10 percent in government sector banks only to hand over the institution to private hands, they added.

Bank employees staged a protest in front of Andhra Bank in Hanamkonda on Tuesday.
