Hyderabad: The state government will lay foundation stones for new Secretariat and Assembly buildings at the cost of Rs 500 crore in the city on June 27.

The new Secretariat will come up on the old Secretariat premises and the new Assembly building (housing both Assembly and Legislative Council) will be constructed at Erramanzil.

The government constituted a Cabinet sub- committee headed by Roads and Buildings Minister V Prashant Reddy to finalise the DPR (detailed project report) and design in a week.

The committee will also decide whether to demolish the whole existing Secretariat for the construction of new building or not. He will take a final call on the committee report, he added.

Speaking to newsmen after the cabinet meeting presided over by him, KCR said that the new Assembly building will have an elevation similar to the existing Assembly structure.

This decision was taken to retain the significance of the heritage building that was built centuries ago. After the AP government accepted to hand over its buildings, the TS government gave up the proposal to construct the Secretariat at the Bison Polo Grounds, he clarified.

Governor ESL Narasimhan, along with AP and Maharashtra CMs YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Devender Fadnavis will grace the occasion.

He said the government is prepared to hold Municipal elections in July. Once the finalisation of BC reservation is over, the government will request the State Election Commission to issue notification for the polls.
