Focus on atrocities against SC/ST in Warangal

Warangal: Since 2017, a compensation of Rs 86.58 lakh has been paid to the 93 victims in accordance with the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Warangal Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said. The Collector, who chaired the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting that reviewed cases of atrocities against SC/STs here on Wednesday, said: "Henceforth, the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee will be held quarterly to speed up the cases pertaining to the SC/ST Atrocities," Patil said.

The administration has paid compensation to 46 victims in 2017, 38 in 2018 and 10 in the current year, he said. Patil told the officials to gather bank account details of another 13 victims, who are waiting for compensation. He said that the proposals put forward by the members of vigilance and monitoring committee for the welfare of SC/ST families will be taken into consideration, he said. '20 of the 40 public toilets being constructed under the Smart Cities Mission have been allotted to Safai Karmachari association.'

Urban Zilla Parishad chairman M Sudheer Kumar expressed concern over the backwardness of Dalits and Adivasis and emphasised the need for engineering a social change by ensuring level playing field for SC/STs.

Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said that they have a special emphasis on monitoring the progress of SC/ST atrocities cases and directed the officials concerned to speed up the investigation of 41 cases pending as of now.

DCP KR Nagaraju, DRO P Mohan Lal, SC Development Officer Nirmala, Vigilance Monitoring Committee members Bommala Kattaiah, R Paranjyothy, NS Naik, G Bhadru Naik, Mandala Parashuramulu and P Damodar were among others present.
