Farm loan waiver in Telangana likely from April

Hyderabad: Farmers will get a big relief from debt burden soon as the Telangana Government has initiated official process for the implementation of the long-pending farm loan waiver scheme as promised by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in 2018 elections.

In all likelihood, the waiver scheme will be implemented from April in the new financial year of 2020-21.

Addressing a meeting conducted with the newly elected DCCB and DCMS chairmen and vice-chairmen at TRS head office Telangana Bhavan here, party working president KT Rama Rao said the government is committed to waive the loans taken by farmers up to Rs 1 lakh.

KTR also announced that the Rythu Samanvaya Samithi will be renamed as Rythu Bandhu Samithi soon. "The government has taken special care of agriculture sector by appointing Agriculture Extension Officers on a large scale. Ours is a government which does not care on the expenditure incurred on farmers welfare", he said.

KTR further said that the sections, which always criticise, are praising the Government after the Kaleshwaram project was yielding fruits. KCR is the only chief minister who brought Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Beema schemes for the benefit of the farmers in the country.

He thanked the farmers for reposing faith in the TRS by providing over 94 per cent seats to the party in the just-held elections to all cooperative societies.

KTR called upon the chairmen and vice-chairmen to take the farmer welfare programmes forward and asked the elected representatives to address the farmers grievances mainly disbursement of loans in the agricultural seasons.

He claimed 8 per cent of the posts were given to SCs, STs, BCs and minorities in the cooperative societies.
