District court takes suo moto of Tileru tragedy

Mahbubnagar: Taking suo moto cognisance of the death of 10 MGNREGA workers in Narayanpet district, Mahbubnagar district court has decided to take up the investigation and appointed a investigation office to probe the incident.

District judge Justice Subramanyam on Friday announced that the Mahbubnagar district court has decided to take up the investigation the incident as suo moto. He said the court has appointed of District Judicial Organisation of Mahbubnagar secretary Chandrasekhar as investigating officer who will enquire about the case in detail and submit a report to the court in two days.

As many as 10 women working under the MGNREGA scheme were buried alive and another injured when a mound of mud caved in on them in Telluru village in Narayanpet district recently.

"The Tileru incident is really an unfortunate incident. As in this case the poor labourers who are working under the Central government's MGNREGA scheme were buried under the mound of mud, we would like to know a detailed information of the incident unlike the Revenue and Police department the judiciary will investigate in a more sensitive manner. The investigating officer would interact with all those who are connected with the incident and would work to provide justice and proper compensation to the families of the deceased victims in a speedier manner," informed Justice Subramanyam, district judge, Mahbubnagar.

The judge said that the court will investigate from all angels in this case and said how was this incident occurred as a natural calamity; whether the MGNREGA workers were appointed following all the rules and norms as per the MGNREG Act; they were provided any safety or any other kind of security measures as per the provisions of MGNREGA, etc. The judge said that the main objective of taking up the case suo moto is to provide better and speedier justice to the bereaved families.
