Congress supports medicos strike in Warangal
Warangal: The Congress has extended its support to the medicos, who resorted to a protest opposing National Medical Council (NMC) Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha recently. Warangal District Congress Committee (DCC) President Naini Rajender Reddy met the medicos at Indian Medical Association (IMA) building here on Wednesday and backed their agitation.
Speaking at the protest, he found fault with the Central government for passing the bill, which is against the interests of the medicos. Terming the bill as 'anti-people and 'pro-corporate,' he said that the Centre is trying to throttle the voice of the people.
Both the Centre and State governments have been diluting the spirit of democracy, he alleged. To exert pressure on the Centre, the medicos need the support of all political parties, so that they can make their voice heard, Reddy said. Further, he told the medicos to unite district-wise and stage demonstrations all over the country.
"On behalf of the DCC and as a parent, I am not only supporting the agitation but also ready to help the medicos," Reddy said. It may be mentioned here that the medicos and the Indian Medical Association is opposing the NMC Bill, which seeks to establish a new regulatory structure for medicine, quashing the Medical Council of India (MCI) and nominating non-medical members to the Commission etc.
TPCC secretaries EV Srinivas Rao, Bathini Srinivas Rao, IMA district president Dr Surender, former IM district president Dr Kasturi Prameela and Dr Ashok Reddy were among others present.
