Congress leaders hopeful of better show

Tandur: The result of Chevella Parliamentary constituency has raised several questions among the ruling party. Though the TRS bagged the seat, the victory played hide and seek with both the candidates of the TRS and the Congress.

TRS failed to garner a huge majority in the LS polls. On the other hand, the Congress showed improvement in many segments. The party got more votes than TRS in Vikarabad and Parigi constituencies. Though the Congress lagged in Tandur constituency, it gained in the rural areas, excluding the votes in the municipal areas. The party was ahead in villages, and it is the now main reason of concern for the TRS cadre.

They worry that the trend might also repeat in the recently concluded Parishad polls. Since, it got majority of votes in the urban areas like Lingampally and Rajender Nagar, where Parishad polls were not conducted. The Congress party fared well in Peddemul and Basheerabad. TRS has got a small margin in Yalal. The vote share of the TRS party reduced when compared to that of the Sarpanch and Assembly elections.

The calculations and equations are throwing the Congress cadre into celebration mood. They are now hoping to gain more votes than expected. The local leaders of the Congress said there was a clear anti-incumbency in the district after Assembly and sarpanch elections.

"As we got more votes in Vikrarabad, Parigi and Tandur constituencies, we are sure that the same trend would be reflected in Parishad polls," they said. TRS, on the other hand, is also confident that they would sweep Parishad results.

The leaders of the party said that the election for Parliament constituency is different from that of Parishad polls. "We have strong cadre in the rural areas, and we will bag major number of MPTC and ZPTC seats," they said. However, the counting of votes for Parishad polls has been postponed by the state election commission, leaving both the parties to guess their prospects.
