Hyderabad: The Congress party on Saturday demanded a death sentence in public for the rapists and murderers of Dr. Priyanka.

Led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Congress activists held a protest at Telangana Martyrs' Memorial at Gun Park. They raised slogans seeking justice for the Dr. Priyanka and condemned the brutal gang rape and murder of the veterinary doctor.

Speaking to media persons later, Abdullah Sohail demanded that the State Government immediately set up a fast track court and issue necessary directions for completion of trial within 8-10 days. Further, he said all the four accused must be given death sentence and they must be hanged in full public view. He said there was no fear of law under TRS Government and immediate measures are needed to be taken to instil fear among criminals. He said the culprits must be given exemplary punishment to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.

The Congress leader also urged the State Police to do a serious introspection of their functioning. He said ineffective patrolling, especially in isolated areas was responsible for the incident. He also demanded that the liquor consumption must be curbed which was driving youth to crime.

He warned that the Congress party would launch serious agitation if fast track court was not set up on an immediate basis.

TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin, Hyderabad Congress Minorities Department Chairman Sameer Waliullah and other senior leaders participated in the protest.
