Hyderabad: Leader of MIM in Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi on Saturday demanded the ruling party to pass a resolution against Citizenship Amendment Act, and National Population Registry.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao promised that a special discussion would be held on the issue and said that a resolution would be passed opposing the CAA and NPR.

This has taken place in Assembly when discussion was held on the Thanksgiving Motion to the Governor for the speech to Assembly and Council. The Chief Minister intervened into the discussion when Akbaruddin and BJP MLA Raja Singh had an argument over CAA and NPR issues.

The Chief Minister said that there were lot of apprehensions in the country over the CAA and NPR. He said that it would have lot of adverse consequences for the future generations.

He said that the TRS has opposed the CAA and NPR in the Parliament. He said that the issue should not create any tensions in the country and urged the Assembly to be restraint on the issue.

Earlier Akbaruddin said that attempts have been made to divide the country on the lines of religion which was against the constitution. Hatred has been spread against one community.

He said that lots of lives have been lost during the agitations against the CAA and NPR. He said that all have to fight against the situation, the ruling NDA at the Centre was neglecting the water scarcity, joblessness, and it has destroyed the economy while promoting CAA.

Akbaruddin said that the CAA, NPR and NCR not just damage the interests of the Muslims but also the interests of poor and uneducated. He made it clear that if Centre invites all the Hindus living in various parts of the world to India, he has no objection. However, he said, there must be a Sunset clause to get citizenship of India.

He said that though it has been said that the minorities living in foreign countries who come to India till 2014 could get citizenship, no end has been announced.

At this juncture BJP MLA Raja Singh opposed Akbaruddin's speech on CAA. He said that the MIM legislator has been speaking on the subject which was not part of Governor's speech.

Continuing his speech after Chief Minister's intervention Akbaruddin said that there was a need to bring back normalcy in the country. He said that GST and Demonetisation have damaged the economy of the country.
