Centre will tame terror: Piyush Goyal

Hyderabad: Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said here on Saturday Prime Minister Narendra Modi stayed awake till 3 am to see the terrorist camps in Balakot in Pakistan being destroyed by the India Air force.

In contrast to this, Congress lawyers had gone to the Supreme Court knocking on its doors in the early hours to save Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, a Pakistani terrorist, who was awarded death penalty for his involvement in the Mumbai terror attack. Addressing a meeting organised as part of the "Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign here, he said, "people should see the contrast between the Congress and Modi.

Criticising the statements of the India Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda, he said, he said the Centre would give appropriate response to the terror attacks. He blamed the previous Congress-led government and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for failing to be tough with the terrorists.

It led to series of terror attacks in the country, he said. Paying tributes to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukh Dev, who were hanged by the British on March 23, Goyal said, "their sacrifices give an inspiring message for us to become stakeholders in discharging our responsibility to make and shape a strong and bright future for India."

Listing out different schemes and development initiatives of the NDA government in the last five years, he said the country experienced corruption-free, responsible, accountable governance in last five years.

Providing electricity to the unreached, housing, financial inclusion, universal health cover, financial assistance, crop insurance to the farmers, construction of individual toilets, pensions to those in the unorganised sector, increasing the income tax exception up to Rs 5 lakh are the other steps that the government has taken to address issues of every section of the society, he said.

The Railway Minister said the country's economy was on the brink of disaster when BJP had taken over the reins. But now India is one among the fastest growing economy among the largest economies in the world, he said.
