Appointment of BJP's Tamilisai as Governor spurs political activity
Hyderabad: The appointment of BJP leader Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana raises a question mark whether the cordial relations between the Chief Minister and new Governor would continue after the exit of the present incumbent ESL Narasimhan.
Narasimhan has served for more than nine years as Governor of the state, first as Governor of Andhra Pradesh and then for both AP and Telangana states. He was recently relieved of Andhra Pradesh charge and on Sunday he was replaced by Tamilisai.
Except for sending back the Municipal Act asking the government to make changes recently, the approach of Narasimhan has been like a green channel for all TRS proposals.
Narasimhan calling KCR as Kaleshwaram Chandrashekar Rao after overseeing the massive construction activity at the Kaleshwaram project received criticism from the Opposition.
Now the situation is unlikely to be the same. TRS leaders are keeping their fingers crossed and mulling on what could be the impact of the Governor on the administration especially in the given circumstances where the BJP was looking to grow in the state stating to be an alternative to the Pink party.
However, a senior TRS leader said the Governor's post would not make any impact on the administration. "What will the Governor do? Governor does not campaign for a political party. Everything has to be done by the government.
Suddenly, the TRS even remembered the words of TDP founder president and former chief minister N T Rama Rao who had opposed the Governors' institution.
On record, the TRS on Sunday welcomed the appointment of new Governor.
Party leaders, including Telangana State Planning Board Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar, T Harish Rao and others have congratulated Tamilisai on her appointment. Harish Rao said in his tweet, "Congratulations to Tamilisai on her appointment as Governor of Telangana."
TRS MLC Karne Prabhakar said the Governor supports development works of the state government and this was evident during the last nine years. He said the new Governor is aware of Telangana culture and we expect good relations with the government from her.
"Governor is a constitutional post and we will not attribute any political affiliations to her," he added.
Meanwhile, the Congress and BJP welcomed the appointment of new Governor and felt that their voice would be easily heard now.
