Animal Welfare Board to file contempt of court plea
Hyderabad: The representatives of Animal Welfare Board of India are planning to approach the High Court against the alleged failure of police, GHMC and animal husbandry officials to implement High Court's order on controlling illegal slaughter of cattle in view of Bakrid.
The organisation has decided to file contempt of court petition against the local police in a week. Bakrid was celebrated across the country on Monday, but they decided to continue their fight till they get positive results from the authorities in implementing the High Court orders.
Speaking to The Hans India, T N Chandrani, State Animal Welfare Officer of Animal Welfare Board of India, said that they are going to seek information from the concerned authorities on the illegal slaughter of cattle through RTI Act.
She alleged that the city police, GHMC and animal husbandry officials miserably failed to implement the orders of High Court in rescuing the cows, calves and other cattle which were illegally slaughtered by the cattle business mafia during Bakrid.
She alleged that more than 1,000 cattle reached many centres in Hyderabad from different parts of other States for slaughtering. But even after installing check posts police failed to rescue the animals.
The representatives said the illegal transporters of cattle sold them at Shalibanda, Hassan Nagar, Kalapather, Shaheen Nagar, Pahadi Shareef, Vattepalli, Chandrayangutta, Malakpet, Bahadurpura, Shama Colony, Farook Nagar, Mustafa Nagar, Gazibanda, Shastripuram and Falaknuma.
They alleged that no concerned official reached the spots and checked whether the businessmen were transporting them illegally or not. Only for name sake they have installed check-posts, and nothing has been done to implement the High Court orders, the representatives added.
According to their reports more than 10,000 cattle were illegally slaughtered last year, due to which they staged agitations and made sure that more number of check posts were installed in the twin cities.
They also said that next year with the help of police and other stake holders they are planning to conduct awareness programmes in order to rescue the cattle.
