92 lakh worth ganja seized in Bhadradri-Kothagudem

Kothagudem: Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt informed on Monday that Rs 92 lakh worth ganja packets were seized in the last 10 days in the district.

Speaking to the media people in his office, he said Rs 8.25 lakh worth ganja packets were seized by the Burgumpahad police and two members were taken into custody.

In another incident, Rs 76 lakh worth contraband was seized in Bhadrachalam, followed by seizure of Rs 8.1 lakh ganja packets in Palvoncha and arrest of eight persons.

The SP informed that overall Rs 92 lakh worth ganja packets were seized in the last 10 days and 10 persons were arrested under the NDPS (Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).

Most of the ganja packets are being brought from the neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. To stope ganja smuggling, the police have kept round-the-clock vigilance at the check posts arranged in the various police station limits in the district.

Meanwhile, SP Sunil Dutt appealed to the members of different communities to welcome the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya case in a peaceful manner.

He said the police have arranged a peace committee meeting with the Hindu and Muslim religious leaders in the district in the wake of on Ayodhya verdict, expected this month.

The SP also urged the community members to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order and advised them to not to trust any rumours that could spread on social media intended to create disharmony in the society.
